TORONTO (February 05, 2011) –
Joren Zeeman of Camrbidge, Ont., recorded a career high 30 points as the Queen's Gaels edged the Ryerson Rams 3-2 in OUA men's volleyball on Saturday.
The Gaels overcame a late scare from the Rams and won with set scores of 25-20; 25-23; 22-25; 25-27; 15-10. Queen's were ahead 2-0 before Ryerson fought back to tie the game at two sets apiece. The Gaels would finish strong at 15-10.
Zeeman registered 26 kills which was 13 more than any other player. It was his highest total of his career surpassing the 23 kills he registered back on October 5, 2008 against Western. His 30 points passed his previous high of 28 which he registered back on February 6, 2010 against Windsor.
Dan Rosenbaum of Hamilton, Ont., registered a season high 60 assists bettering his 56 he posted against Western on January 22.
Niko Rukavina of Mississauga, Ont., and
Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., also had solid games contributing 18 and 17 points respectively while combining for 29 kills on 45 attempts.
Toronto's George Sakvarelidze was Ryerson's top player with 13 kills, one block, one ace for 15 points.
The Gaels improve to 14-3 and are tied with McMaster for second place in the OUA. Both teams trail Western by four points and both have a game in hand on the Mustangs. Queen's will battle eighth place York (5-12) tomorrow at 4:00pm and finish against McMaster (Feb. 12) and Guelph (Feb. 13) at home.
