KINGSTON, Ont. (February 13, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels men's volleyball team (16-4) clinched the No. 3 seed in the OUA thanks to a straight set victory over the Guelph Gryphons (15-5) Sunday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
Set scores were 26-24, 25-17, 25-21.
The Gaels were led by another strong performance from
Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont. Zeeman picked up 17 kills to go along with two solo blocks to lead the team in both categories. It is the ninth time in the last ten matches that the fourth year outside hitter has recorded 13 or more kills in a match.
Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., also reached double-digits in kills with 12 while
Michael Amoroso of Toronto, and
Niko Rukavina of Mississauga, Ont., recorded nine and eight respectively.
Guelph was led by James Stamler of North Bay, Ont.,who had 12 kills on the match. Queen's was able to hold the Gryphons Winston Rosser of Whitby, Ont., to just five kills on the day. Rosser entered the match second in the OUA in kills per set, trailing only the Gaels Zeeman.
