Gaels lose nail-biter to No. 8 Badgers

BOX SCORE KINGSTON (November 26, 2011) - The Gaels (4-2) lost in overtime by two points to the No. 8 Brock Badgers (6-0) in OUA basketball  action Saturday evening at home. The final score was 71-69 for Brock who remains undefeated on the season.

The Gaels had an uphill climb to reach overtime. In the first quarter, the Badgers outscored the Gaels 20-13. In the second, the Gaels stepped up their defense, holding the Badgers to only five points, and scoring 11 of their own. The Gaels did not make it to the free throw line once in the half.

The third quarter was an offensive showing from both teams, the Badgers having the advantage 25-22. In the fourth, the Gaels were able to tie things up, taking the game into overtime. In the second half the Gaels went to the line 15 times, connecting on 12 opportunities.

In overtime the scores stayed close, but the Badgers got the best of the Gaels by one bucket, 11-9. The Gaels could not cool the Badgers hot shooting in overtime at 71 percent.  

Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. led the Gaels offense with 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Sydney Kernahan of Calgary added 10 of her own, picking up 12 rebounds for the double-double.

The Gaels travel to London next weekend to take on the Western Mustangs on Friday night before heading to Windsor for a game against the Lancers on Saturday.  Tip-off between the Gaels and Mustangs is set for 6:00 pm.
