Gaels top Rams 6-2 on the road

| By:
TORONTO (November 19, 2011) - The Queen's Gaels (8-3-1) got three point efforts from Shawna Griffin of Redwood Meadows, Alta. and Morgan McHaffie of Guelph, Ont. on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Ryerson Rams (1-11-0) on Friday night.

The Gaels were quick out of the gate as Taryn Pilon of Peterborough, Ont. scored a goal less than a minute after the opening puckdrop to give Queen's an early lead. Ryerson equalized with a power play goal just before the end of the first period to send the game into the first intermission tied at one.

Another quick goal in the second from captain Kristin Smith of Toronto restored the Gaels lead before Alex Cieslowski of Oakville, Ont. scored the eventual game winner midway through the frame. The Gaels went into the second intermission with a two goal lead and didn't look back.

Ryerson brought the game back within one after the break as Melissa Wronzberg of Thornhill, Ont. put one past the Gaels Karissa Savage of Calgary who was between the pipes in the contest. It was all Gaels after the Wronzberg goal as Queen's scored three unanswered goals to close out the game. McHaffie, Katie Duncan of Waterloo, Ont. and Griffin all scored late to ice the game for the Gaels.

Savage stopped 16 of 18 shots put on goal by the Rams to earn her fifth win of the season. Alana Smith of Aurora, Ont. was the third Gael to have a multipoint night with two assists. Danielle Girard of Sarnia, Ont. also got on the score sheet with an assist on Griffin's goal.

The Gaels return to action next Saturday when they host the Guelph Gryphons at the Memorial Centre. Puck drop is set for 3:30 pm in the rematch of the 2011 OUA Championship game.
