BOX SCORE WATERLOO, Ont. (November 18, 2011) -
Mackenzie Simpson of Ottawa had a team high 14 points, but it ultimately wasn't enough as the Queen's Gaels (0-3) couldn't overcome the No. 10 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on the road. The Golden Hawks took the game by an 88-62 final.
The Gaels struggled early on in the game, falling behind by a 23-8 margin after the first quarter. Despite playing a better second quarter in which Laurier outscored the Gaels by a 20-14 difference, the gap was too much to overcome for the young Gaels squad.
The second half was much closer as the Gaels scored 40 of their 62 points after halftime. The Gaels kept Laurier within five points in the third quarter and played an even fourth quarter with the Golden Hawks to round out their effort.
Laurier was led by Kale Harrison of Stratford, Ont. who put up 13 points and Max Allin of Chatham, Ont. who had 15 points and six assists.
Simpson led all Gaels scorers with 14 points and added five rebounds.
Bernard Burgesson of Port Hawkesbury, N.S. and
John Lenz of Ottawa put up identical nine point, four rebound lines with Lenz's contributions coming off of the bench.
The Gaels return to action on November 19 when they take on the Waterloo Warriors. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
