Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont. continued his stellar season with a 20 point performance to lead the Queen's Gaels (2-3) over the Waterloo Warriors (3-3), 3-0. Set scores were 25-21; 25-21; 25-22.
The Gaels were aggressive on the attack early with 15 kills on 29 total attacks against the Warriors in the first set. Errors by the Gaels kept the Warriors in the game, as the Gaels took the set by a 25-21 margin.
The Gaels ran into a tougher Waterloo defence in the second set as the Warriors limited Queen's to 12 kills on 33 attacks, while the Gaels committed another nine errors. The Gaels countered with stiff defence of their own, only allowing Waterloo eight kills on 29 attacks to take the set by an identical 25-21 line.
The Gaels saved their best offensive set for last as they converted 14 kills on 37 attacks while limited their number of errors to five. The effort was enough to clinch the game in straight sets as they took the third by a 25-22 score.
Zeeman was the top scorer in the game with a 20 point performance on the strength of 18 kills and a service ace.
Michael Amoroso of Toronto was one of the Gaels most efficient players in the middle of the court as he had five kills on 11 attacks. Fiodar Kazhamiaka of Waterloo, Ont. was the top player for the Warriors with eight kills and an ace of his own.
The Gaels will look to get back over .500 with a five game home stand beginning on November 18. Their next action is on Friday against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Start time in the ARC is set for 8:00 pm.
