Koposhynska registers a career high 20 points in 71-62 Queen’s win over York

TORONTO (Janaury 8, 2011) - Hanna Koposhynska of Toronto exploded for a career high 20 points as the Queen's Gaels knocked off the York Lions 71-62 in OUA women's basketball action on Saturday night.

Koposhynska, who was averaging 4.1 points heading into the game, was unstoppable going 9-for-14 from the field and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She also recorded five rebounds in the win. Her previous regular season career high was eight points coming against RMC last January.

Jill Wheat of Marwayne, Alta. recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Paige Robinson of Calgary had 12 points while Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. recorded 11.

Brittany Szockyj of NIagara on the Lake, Ont., was York's top scorer with 16 points.

The win pushes the Gaels record to 3-8 and they remain tied for fifth place in the OUA East with Laurentian who edged RMC 84-44 also on Saturday. The loss drops Yorks record to 5-6 and the Lions sit in fourth place in the OUA East.

Queen's will return to the hardwood next weekend in the belairdirect Rivalry Match up against the first place Carleton Ravens. Tipoff is set for 6:00pm at the Athletics and Recreation Centre on campus at Queen's University.

NOTE: Koposhynska scored 18 points in a Gaels uniform against the Memorial Seahawks  during an exhibition match at the Concordia Invitational just last week.
