TORONTO (January 8, 2010) - Tim Boyle of Belleville, Ont. had his best offensive performance in a Gaels uniform but it was all for naught as the York Lions got past the Queen's Gaels 81-78.
Boyle would record a career-high 27 points with 15 points coming on three-pointers. He was 10-of-15 from the field and five-of-six from behind the arch. Heading into the game, Boyle was averaging 10.7 pointer per game his previous high this season was 15 points (Nov. 26 vs. Windsor).
Dan Banister of Newmarket, Ont., continued his solid play posting 20 points in the loss. He also tallied a game high five assists.
Ryan Golden of Barrie, Ont. and
Chris Barrett of Vancouver each pulled down a game high six rebounds.
David Tyndale of Mississauga, Ont., had 27 points in the win for York while Ostap Choly of Oakville, Ont., recorded 19 points. Dejan Kravic of London, Ont., also cracked double digits with 12 points.
Queen's held a two point advantage heading into the half (39-37) but a troublesome third quarter which saw York score 21 points to the Gaels 11 would be difference. Queen's would outscore York 28-23 in the final frame, but it wasn't enough as York held on for the 81-78 win.
The loss is the Gaels second straight and drops Queen's to a 2-9 record. They are tied for sixth place in the OUA East Division with the Ryerson Rams at four points; however the Rams hold a game in hand.
The Gaels will be in tough next weekend as they host Carleton in the belairdirect Rivalry game. The Ravens are a perfect 10-0 and hold the top position in the OUA East. Game time is set for 8:00pm
On Saturday, Queen's will face the 3-7 Ottawa Gee-Gees in the night cap of Super Saturday- 'Flood the ARC'. Super Saturday features a quadruple header with Men's & Women's Volleyball and Men's and Women's Basketball. Women's Volleyball will kick off the action inside the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) at 12:00pm.
