WATERLOO, Ont. (January 8, 2010) -
Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont., provided all the offence, scoring a hatrick as the Queen's Gaels downed the Waterloo Warriors 3-0. The win was the women's hockey team's first of the new year as they make their push toward the OUA playoffs.
Kench opened the scoring for the Gaels with a goal four minutes into the game.
Becky Conroy of Pembroke, Ont., had an assist on the goal which would be her first of three in the game as she assisted all three of Kench's goals. Kench would add her second goal with two minutes remaining in the second period before scoring her third on the power play in the third period.
Calgary's
Karissa Savage stopped all 17 shots she faced in goal for the Gaels to preserve the shutout.
Alex Cieslowski of Oakville, Ont.,
Morgan McHaffie of Guelph, Ont., and
Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont. added an assist each.
The Gaels return to action on Sunday, January 9 when they take on the no.2 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drop is set for 3:00 pm in Waterloo.
