SUDBURY, Ont. (January 7, 2011) - The Queen's Gaels (2-8) stumbled early and couldn't recover as the Laurentian Lady Vees (2-8) dumped the women's basketball team 74-50 on Friday evening.
The game was the Gaels first regular season match since the holiday break which began on November 27th.
The Lady Vees jumped to an early 19-8 first quarter lead and built that to a 36-19 lead at the half. Although the Gaels managed 17 points in the third quarter, Laurentian posted 19 points in both of the final two quarters to finish 74-50.
Britanny Moore of Hannon, Ont. posted 11 points in the loss while
Liz Boag of Kingston contributed 10.
Hanna Koposhynska of Toronto tallied a team high 11 rebounds.
Katie Goggins of Hammer, Ont., was the games leading scorer posting 22 points in the win for Laurentian. Lisa Furchner of Sudbury, Ont., recorded a double double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
The loss puts the Gaels into a three-way tie for fifth place with Laurentian and Ryerson who all have four points in the OUA East Division. Tomorrow night the Gaels will play the 5-5 York Lions on campus at York University. Tipoff is set for 6:00pm.
