BOX SCORE TORONTO (January 22, 2011) – Coming into Saturday night's encounter with the Toronto Varsity Blues, the Gaels have been unable to win a regular season game in the 2011 calendar year.
However,
Dan Bannister of Newmarket, Ont., and his 25 points and seven rebounds changed that as the Gaels upset the OUA East second place Varsity Blues on the road winning 80-66 Saturday night.
The Gaels were powered by a strong third quarter where they outscored the Blues 34-18. The Gaels shot an astonishing 50% from the field and 52.6% from beyond the arc Saturday night.
Matthew Baker of Kingston, Ont., chipped in 13 points aiding in the victory while
Timothy Boyle of Belleville, Ont., added five assists.
The Blues' balanced attacked was not enough as they had four different players reach double digits in scoring in the losing effort.
With the win the Gaels halted their five game losing streak and are now 3-12 on the season and sit in seventh place in the OUA East with seven games left in the regular season.
The Gaels travel to Ottawa next weekend to try and improve their 2-8 road record when they take on the Gee-Gees Friday night at 8:00pm and the Carleton Ravens Saturday night at 8:00pm.
