Gaels keep pace in OUA standings with third straight victory

| By:
TORONTO (January 22, 2011) – Kelly Jackson of Toronto, scored two goals to lead the Queen's Gaels over the Ryerson Rams 5-3 Saturday afternoon.

The win gives the Gaels their third victory in a row, the first time they have accomplished the feat this season.

Jackson scored the eventual winner at 17:24 of the second period on the powerplay. The Gaels powerplay was particularly effective, scoring three of their five goals with the man-advantage.

The Rams began the game with two goals in the first period including a short-handed marker with just over three minutes remaining in the first period. The Gaels responded quickly, however, with Stephane Chabot of Rockland, Ont., scoring just 35 seconds later to pull the Gaels within one.

The Gaels then took over the game in the second period with Jackson scoring his first goal of the game, and seventh of the season just 1:37 into the second, tying the game at two. Patrick McEachen of Stouffville, Ont., scored his first goal as a Gael on the powerplay midway through the second to give the Gaels a lead they would not relinquish.

Daniel Mandel of Toronto, capped off the Gaels scoring with his second of the season at 16:18 of the third period.

Jonathon Lawrence of Steinbach, Man., led the Gaels in scoring tallying four assists in the victory while Joey Derochie of Sudbury, Ont., also added two assists.

Steele De Fazio of Georgetown, Ont., stopped 28 of 31 shots helping him record his seventh win of the season.

With the win, the Gaels move to 10-10-2 on the season, good enough for seventh in the OUA East. Queen`s currently sits only one point back of both Ottawa and Concordia who sit fifth and sixth respectively in the OUA East.

The Gaels will make the trek to North Bay, Ontario next weekend to take on the Nipissing Lakers in back-to-back games. Game times are Friday at 7:00pm and Saturday at 2:00pm.
