Gaels squander 12 point half-time lead; fall in overtime to Rams

BOX SCORE TORONTO (January 21, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team (3-11) saw their losing streak extended to three games as they lost 74-64 in overtime to the Ryerson Rams (5-9) Friday night in Toronto.

After building a 34-22 lead after 20 minutes of play, the Gaels let Ryerson back into the contest as the Rams outscored Queen's 26-16 in the third quarter to cut the lead to two.

In the fourth quarter, both teams played tough, defensive basketball but Ryerson was able to even the game at 59, forcing the Gaels to overtime for the first time this season.

The extra frame saw the Rams control the play, outscoring Queen's 15-5 to earn the victory.

Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., led the Gaels on the night as she finished with a season-high 25 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field. Gemma Bullard of Guelph, Ont., and Hanna Koposhynska of Toronto, each chipped in with 14 points.

As for the Rams, Ashley MacDonald of Port Colborne, Ont., led Ryerson with 20 points. Kelsey Wright of Brampton, Ont., finished the game with 15 points while Jenny Hobbs of Burlington, Ont., dropped 13 points and pulled down nine boards.

The Gaels will look to put an end to their losing streak tomorrow night when they take on the Toronto Varsity Blues at 6:00 pm.
