BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 18, 2011) – Thanks to a pair of three point games from
Payton Liske of Welland, Ont., and
Jordan Mirwaldt of Winnipeg, Man., the Queen's Gaels men's hockey team (9-10-2) earned their second consecutive win with a 4-2 victory over the RMC Paladins (2-19-1).
The Gaels dominated the game from start to finish as they outshot the Paladins 49-19.
Brock Ouellet of Lindsay, Ont., opened the scoring for Queen's in the first period when he fired home his eighth goal of the season. However, despite outshooting RMC 20-5 in the period, the Gaels would only maintain a one goal lead heading to the second.
Mirwaldt would stretch the lead to two when he scored his fifth of the season midway through the second period but the Paladins would draw within one shortly thereafter thank to a goal from Richard Lim of Calgary, Alta.
Late in the frame, Liske took a feed from
Patrick McEachen of Stoufville, Ont., and beat Paladins goalie Andrew Flemming of Quispamsis, N.B., to restore the Gaels two goal advantage.
Just 15 second into the third, Liske struck again with his second of the contest to give the Gaels a lead they would not relinquish.
Landon Lavictoire of Kirkland Lake, Ont., would round out the scoring for RMC.
Steele De Fazio of Georgetown, Ont., earned his second straight win for Queen's turning aside 17 shots. Flemming, despite making 45 saves on the night, was credited with the loss.
The Gaels will be back on the ice Saturday afternoon when they travel to Toronto to battle the Ryerson Rams. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
