Gaels get back to winning ways with sweep of Golden Hawks

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 16, 2011) – One day after being upset by the Waterloo Warriors, the Queen's Gaels men's volleyball team bounced back with a strong effort against the Laurier Golden Hawks, winning in three straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-20) Sunday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Centre.

Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., and Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., both played excellent games for Queen's as they each picked up a match-high 13 kills. Zeeman finished the match with a 41.7 hitting percentage while Fautley had a very efficient 57.9 hitting percentage.

Alex Oneid of Ottawa, was a force on defence for the Gaels as he finished with a match-high eight digs.

Cameron Wheelan of Barrie, Ont., was the top player for Laurier on the day as he registered eight kills.

The win moves the Gaels (10-3) into a tie with the Guelph Gryphons (10-4) for third in the OUA. However, the Gaels have a game in hand over second place McMaster (11-3) and move to within six points of the Western Mustangs (13-1).

As for Laurier, they remain in fifth place with a 7-7 record.

Queen's will be on the road next weekend as they travel to Windsor and Western for two important games. The Gaels take on the Lancers Friday night at 8:00 pm and battle the Mustangs Saturday night, also at 8:00 pm.
