KINGSTON, Ont. (January 15, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team struggled out of the gate losing 71-57 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) in Kingston.

The loss is the Gaels second in as many games and they currently hold a 1-5 record at home. Queen's falls to 3-10 and are in a tie for sixth place of the OUA East with Laurentian at six points. The Gaels are two points behind Ryerson for fifth place. The win pushes Ottawa's record to 8-4 and they sit in third place with 16 points.

Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., broke double digit in scoring for the eighth consecutive game with 20 points. It's also the third time she has recorded 20 points this season and she was the game's leading scorer.

Hannah Sunley-Paisley of Toronto was Ottawa's top player recording a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds including nine defensive boards.

Ottawa opened with a 7-0 run before the Gaels got on board when Moore registered two points on foul shots. Ottawa would increase the lead to 11 points in the first quarter at 21-10. The Gee-Gees continued the pressure in the second quarter taking a 39-23 into the half.

Queen's would go on to win the next two quarters (18-17 and 16-15) but the first half damage was too much to overcome leading to a final of 71-57.

Paige Robinson of Calgary posted 14 points in the loss while Hanna Koposhynska of Toronto tallied 12. Koposhynska also led the Gaels with five rebounds.

Tatianna Hanlan of Gatineau, Que., was Ottawa's top scorer with 16 points. She was followed by Sunley-Paisley with 13, Jenna Gilbert of Ottawa with 12 and Sarah Nolette of Edmonton who had 11.

Gee-Gee's Kimberly Cupid of Toronto had an all around strong performance recording nine points, six assists and five steals. She was also the shortest player on the court standing at 5'2” grabbing nine rebounds which was the second highest to Sunley-Paisley.

The Gaels will hit the road for four games over the next two weeks with their first match coming against Ryerson on Jan. 21. Queen's will return home on Feb. 4 against Toronto.
