Waterloo overcomes Zeeman’s 18 kills to upset Gaels

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (January 15, 2011) – Queen's Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., posted a match-high 18 kills but it was the Waterloo Warriors who came out on top, winning a four set match (20-25, 22-25, 30-28, 20-25) over the No. 8 Gaels men's volleyball team Saturday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

Fiodar Kazhamiaka of Waterloo, Ont., led a balanced Warriors attack with 15 kills to go along with two solo blocks and a service ace. Other Warriors contributing in the win were Tyler Motherwell of Scarborough, Ont., and Jordan Dyck of St. Catharines, Ont., who each had nine kills in the victory.

Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., joined Zeeman in posting double-digits in kills for the Gaels with 13. However, no other Gael was able to post more than six as Waterloo found a way to shutdown a potent Queen's offensive attack.

With the loss, Queen's record drops to 9-3 on the season while Waterloo sees their record improve to 5-8.

The Gaels will look to get back in the win column tomorrow afternoon when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the ARC. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
