Ravens edge Gaels 64-62

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 14, 2011) – In a game that came down to the wire, the Carleton Ravens edged the Queen's Gaels 64-62 in OUA women's basketball action on Friday night at the Queen's University Athletics and Recreation Centre.

The game featured 21 lead changes with Carleton going ahead for good with just 35 seconds remaining. Ashleigh Cleary of Kemptville, Ont. put the Ravens ahead 63-62 on a foul shot.

The win extends Carleton's win streak to five games and they hold a four point advantage over Ottawa atop the OUA East Division with a 9-2 record. The loss drops Queen's to 3-9 and they are in a three way tie for fifth place with Laurentian and Ryerson.

Paige Robinson of Calgary was named Queen's player of the game securing 15 points, five rebounds and six assists.

Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. tallied a game high 17 points. She was seven of 16 from the floor in 36 minutes of play.

Kendall MacLeod of Brockville, Ont., was Carleton's top scorer posting 16 points in the win. She also pulled down five rebounds to lead the Ravens in both categories. Alyson Bush of Ottawa recorded 12 points while Cleary registered 10 points.

Queen's Sydney Kernahan of Calgary was the game's top rebounder with six. Jill Wheat of Marwayne, Alta., posted five boards.

The Gaels will battle second place Ottawa tomorrow evening in the third of four varsity games scheduled in the Athletics and Recreation Centre on Saturday. Women's volleyball kicks off the full day of action at 12:00pm followed by Men's Volleyball at 2:00pm. Women's basketball tipoff is set for 6:00pm with the men's game following at 8:00pm.
