Ottawa (September 4, 2010) -
Elena Corry of Hamilton, Ont., recorded a shutout to kickoff the women's soccer season as the No. 4 Queen's Gaels cruised to a 4-0 win over the Carleton Ravens on Saturday in Ottawa.
Melissa Jung of Mississauga, Ont. scored in her CIS debut while
Jackie Tessier of Winnipeg,
Riley Filion Alexandria, Ont., and Jen Hutchinson of St. John's, Nfld., also scored.
The Gaels were 1-1 in regular season play against Carleton last year and edged the Ravens 1-0 in the OUA quarterfinals before advancing all the way to the CIS Championship. The Gaels would go on to finish fourth in the country last season.
Queen's kicks off their home season on Sunday as they meet the Trent University Excalibur. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm at Richardson Stadium. Queen's took last year's season series against the Excalibur winning 8-0 in Kingston and 4-0 in Peterborough, Ont.
In the other OUA East Division match-up, Nipissing and Toronto played to a 1-1 tie.
