TORONTO (September 12, 2010) – A last minute goal by
Justin Vermeer of Grimsby Ont., saved the Queen's Gaels from another loss as they tied the Ryerson Rams 2-2 in Toronto Sunday afternoon.
The Rams took the lead in the thirteenth minute of play with a goal from Ryerson midfielder, Alex Braletic, of Thornhill Ont.
David Tom responded with a goal of his own later in the half to tie the game up. The goal was Tom's first in CIS play.
The game remained tied for much of the second half until Ryerson's Vince D'Elia, of Vaughan Ont., scored late in the game. However, with a late offensive push, Vermeer was able to find the back of Ryerson's net in the dying seconds of the game.
The tie brings the Gaels' record to 1-2-1. The Gaels next game is next Saturday in Peterborough against the Trent Excaliburs.
