KINGSTON, Ont. (April 20, 2010) - Queen's men's soccer Head Coach Chris Gencarelli announced today that centre back Joseph Zupo of Senator O'Connor College School in Toronto has committed to the Gaels for the 2010-2011 season.
Zupo, a soccer MVP at Senator O'Connor, is a 2009 Ontario Cup Champion and a 'AAA' OFSAA Bronze medalist. During his soccer career, Joseph has played for Global Satellite Soccer Academy, formed by Blackburn Rovers Scout Mick O'Brien, and has played in the Arsenal International Soccer Festival in London, England and the Foyle Cup in Derry, Northern Ireland.
When asked about his most recent decision to attend Queen's University, the 6'2, 170 lbs., centre back could not hide his excitement. "I am ecstatic with the opportunity to further my education at such a reputable post-secondary institution," said Zupo. "Queen's University strives for both academic and athletic excellence, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to help the team achieve a provincial and national championship."
"Joseph will definitely add to our experienced back four," commented Gencarelli. "We'll look for Joseph to come in and help us right away. He's a physical presence who is comfortable and composed with the ball, and demonstrates sound leadership qualities. I have very high expectations for Joseph both as a player and a student here at Queen's University."
