KINGSTON, Ont. (February 5, 2010) – In a battle of second- and third-place teams, the underdog Gaels provided a commanding victory on homecourt, winning 3-1.
The Gaels took the first two games 25-21 and 25-20, before being losing the third set 29-27. In the fourth, the Gaels had to fight hard to pull out the 26-24 win, and take the match.
Michael Amoroso (Toronto) came up huge with 22 points on 19 kills, while
Niko Rukavina (Mississauga, Ont.) had 11 kills and a stuff block. The Gaels had four players with double figure points, while setter
Daniel Rosenbaum (Hamilton) had 48 assists.
Mathieu Poulin (Winnipeg, Man.) led the Mustangs with 17 kills, while also leading all players with nine attack errors. Western only managed one block on the Gaels big hitters. The Gaels played without the force of Canadian National
Joren Zeeman (Cambridge, Ont.) who only played in two games and didn't take over as Gaels fans are use to.
The Gaels continue play on Saturday against the University of Windsor Lancers, playing at 8:00 in the main gym of the ARC. After that, the Gaels play three road games to close out the regular season.
