Gaels comeback falls short against Nipissing

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 13, 2010) – The Gaels closed out their regular season with a 5-4 loss against Nipissing University on home ice, and now must prepare for the OUA playoffs.

The Gaels, who finished fifth in the OUA East, will battle the Carleton Ravens in the first round of the playoffs. Queen's finished the season with a 1-1 record against the Ravens and will host Game 2 of the three game series.

Down 5-2 with under ten minutes left in the third period, Payton Liske (Welland, Ont.) scored the first of back-to-back goals to pull the Gaels within one. Liske had two tallies on the night and finished the season with 21 goals in 28 games.

Team Captain Jonathan Lawrance (Steinbach, Man.) had a goal and assist in the season finale, including the final goal of the game. Rookie goalie Steele De Fazio (Georgetown, Ont.) closed out the season with 29 saves on 34 shots.

With the score 2-2 at the end of the second period, Nipissing strung together three straight goals, started by Sam Hopewell`s (Almonte, Ont.) second goal of the game. 

Despite the win, Nipissing was outshot by the Gaels 44-34.
