Skippon leads Gaels to victory over Gee Gees

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (February 12, 2010) – With playoff positioning on the line, Erin Skippon of Kelowna, B.C., led the Gaels to a big 82-74 win over the Ottawa Gee Gees on Friday night at the Athletics & Recreation Centre (ARC).

With Queen's and Ottawa separated by just two points in the standings, there was a lot on the line in the game and the Gaels came out determined to pick up a win. The team scored 24 points in the opening quarter to open up a three point lead on the Gee Gees.

Both Queen's and Ottawa continued to trade points in the second quarter but the Gee Gees managed to pull within two points at the half.

The second half saw the Gaels regain their shooting touch as they put up another 24 points on Ottawa in the third quarter and then played strong defence down the stretch to earn their 13th victory of the season.

Skippon poured in 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds as she was named the player of the game for the Gaels. Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., added 22 points for the Gaels while Christine Wallace of North Gower, Ont., recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Emilie Morasse of Quebec, Que., led the Gee Gees in scoring with a game-high 25 points.

With the win, the Gaels (13-8) remain tied for second place in the OUA East division with the Ryerson Rams. The loss drops Ottawa to 11-10 as they hold fifth place in the division, two points ahead of Toronto.

The Gaels will play their final regular season game tomorrow night when they host division-leading Carleton. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm at the ARC.
