KINGSTON, Ont. (November 5, 2010) -
Brittany Moore (Hannon, Ont.) and the Queen's Gaels kick off their 2010-2011 campaign tonight against the visiting Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.
This season is shaping up to be one of great optimism for the Gaels. Moore, a three time OUA all-star, returns to the team for her fourth season and will be counted on to be a top scorer. The Gaels have also had one of their best recruiting classes in recent memory as they have brought in highly touted players such as
Rachael Urosevic (Waterloo, Ont.),
Lisa Minutillo (Brantford, Ont.),
Gemma Bullard (Guelph, Ont.), and
Jordan Tomas (Waterloo, Ont.). The Gaels were also successful in landing Kingston, Ontario high school star
Liz Boag, and Division I transfer
Meaghan MacDougall (Marintown, Ont.).
The Gaels had an inconsistent pre-season as they went 4-6. Their last game saw the Gaels top the UQAM Citadins by a 66-60 score.
Brittany Moore led the Gaels with 25 points. The game was part of the Tindall Women's Basketball Tournament, which was won by the Gaels and saw both Moore and fellow Gael
Jill Wheat (Marwayne, Alta.) named tournament all-stars.
The Golden Hawks are coming off of a strong pre-season which saw them go 5-3. Laurier will be relying on their stars Renata Adamczyk (Greensville, Ont.) and Megan Grant (Thunder Bay, Ont.) to lead the team this season in their fifth years.
These two teams last met in November of 2009 when the Gaels handled the Golden Hawks by a 71-59 score. Former Gael
Erin Skippon (Kelowna, B.C.) led all scorers with a 22 point effort to lead the team to victory.
Friday's game will take place in the Main Gym of the ARC. Tip off is set for 6:00 pm.
