Gaels edge Paladins 2-1

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 2, 2010) – Jacqueline Tessier of Winnipeg scorer her CIS leading 14th goal of the season as the No. 5 Queen's Gaels defeated the RMC Paladins 2-1 in women's soccer on Saturday afternoon.

Kayla Crnic of Milton, Ont., scored the game winner to lift Queen's record to 9-1 and extend their winning streak to five games.

Tessier scored in the 12th minute while Crnic scored in the dying seconds of the first half.

Royal Military College's (RMC) lone goal came on a penalty kick by Laura Gray of Brookside, N.S., in the 72nd minute of play.

Tessier's goal brings her season total to 14 and she already matched York's Ami Otaki of Kanagawa, Japan who was last year's OUA leading scorer. Tessier has scored at least one goal in seven of the ten regular season games this year.

The Gaels lead the OUA East with 27 points, 10 points ahead of the Ottawa Gee Gees.

Queen's have earned wins in the last five meetings against their cross-town rivals. The Gaels will face RMC in the second game of a home-and-home tomorrow at Richardson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:15pm.
