LONDON, Ont. (October 16, 2010) –
Morgan McHaffie of Guelph, Ont., picked up a goal and an assist as the Queen's Gaels dominated the Western Mustangs from start to finish in earning a 3-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Gaels, who scored all three of their goals in the first period, outshot the Mustangs 45 to 15 in the game, including 23 shots in the opening frame.
Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont., opened the scoring for Queen's five minutes into the game and just 10 seconds later, captain
Michelle Hunt of Mississauga, Ont., scored her first of the season and the eventual game winner.
McHaffie, who picked up the lone assist on Hunt's goal, would cap the Gaels scoring in the period with her second goal of the season.
Before the period was out, Marianne Filson of Denfield, Ont., got the Mustangs on the board but they would get no closer as Gaels goalie
Karissa Savage of Calgary, shut the door the rest of the way.
Savage would finish the game with 14 saves to earn her first victory of the season.
The Gaels will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they are in Windsor to battle the Lancers. Puck drop is set for 4:10pm.
