Payton Liske (Welland, Ont.) scored in the shootout and goalie
Steele De Fazio (Georgetown, Ont.) stopped all three shooters, giving the Gaels a 3-2 win over Nipissing.
The Gaels jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period thanks to early goals from captain Jonathon Lawrence (Steinbach, Man.) and forward
Joey Derochie (Sudbury, Ont.). Queen's owned a 14-11 shooting advantage in the first frame.
Nipissing responded with a pair of goals to tie the game. Sam Hopewell (Almonte, Ont.) scored on the powerplay for his second goal of the season. Lucas McKinley (Fredericton, N.B.) followed with another powerplay marker in the second period. Goalie Billy Stone (Foresters Falls, Ont.) finished the game with 35 saves for Nipissing.
After a scoreless third period and overtime, the Gaels took to the shootout looking for a second straight overtime win. After both teams missed on their first attempts, Liske scored to give Queen's the advantage. De Fazio followed up by saving Nipissing's final attempt in the shootout, securing the win for Queen's.
The Gaels head on the road for games against Carlton on October 22, 2010 and McGill on October 23, 2010. The next home game is a rivalry rematch against McGill on October 29, 2010 (8:30pm) at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
