Varsity Blues control from start to finish in victory over Gaels

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (January 8, 2010) – Led by Byron Elliott and Joe Rand, the Toronto Varsity Blues defeated the Queen's Gaels by a score of 7-3 on Friday night at the Kingston Memorial Centre.

The loss drops the Gaels to 9-8-1 on the season while the Blues improve to 7-7-3.

Rand and Elliott helped Toronto jump out to a quick 3-0 lead in the opening frame with Rand finding the back of the net twice. Elliott would also score twice in the first as Toronto took a 4-1 lead into the dressing room.

An early second period goal from David Fitzpatrick of Thunder Bay, Ont., brought the Gaels to within two goals but that would be as close as they would get. Toronto would score the next three goals, including Elliott's third of the game, to pick up their seventh win of the season.

Russ Brownell stopped 24 of the Gaels 27 shots on the night while Steele De Fazio made 39 saves in a losing effort.

The Gaels will be back on the ice tomorrow night as they head down the 401 to take on the Ryerson Rams. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
