OTTAWA (January 22, 2010) –
Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont., recorded 18-points and was the game's top scorer in a 74-58 loss to the Carleton Ravens in OUA men's basketball action on Friday evening in the nation's capital.
The loss pushes Queen's record to 7-6 and a share of fourth place in the OUA east division with Toronto. Carleton maintains its hold on first place in the OUA East and are two points ahead of the Ottawa Gee Gees who beat Royal Military College 120-60 on Friday.
Leger, a contender for the CIS player of the year award, narrowly missed his 11th double-double of the year tallying nine rebounds in the game with 18 points. The fourth-year sociology major leads the country in rebounds with 166 and is third in scoring.
Dan Bannister of Newmarket, Ont., contributed 14 points in the loss while Queen's Rugby import,
Chris Barrett of Vancouver, chipped in with nine. Guard
Baris Ondul of Istanbul, Turkey, added 10 points.
Michael Kenny of Ottawa was Carleton's top scorer with 16-points. The Raven's had four players break double digits.
Queen's will look to snap a two game losing streak against the Gee Gees tomorrow evening at the University of Ottawa with tip-off scheduled for 8:00pm.
The Gaels' next home game is against the Laurentian Voyageurs on January 29. That game will mark Queen's inaugural game in the Athletics & Recreations Centre (ARC) – Main Gym.
