Gaels comeback effort falls short

TORONTO, Ont. (January 17, 2010) – The Queen's Gaels women's hockey team scored two goals in the third period to close the score to 4-3, however could not complete the comeback against the Varsity Blues

The Gaels opened the scoring at 6:06 of the first period on a goal by Elizabeth Kench (Gananoque, Ont.), her ninth of the year. The Varisty Blues responded with four straight goals to seemingly put the game away. Goaltender Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) saved 27 of 31 shots on the day.

The Gaels attempted to close the 4-1 gap, led by Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) who scored two third period goals. Both goals where assisted by Michelle Hunt (Mississauga, Ont.). Kench also collected an assist to give three Gaels multi-point games.

The Varsity Blues had two goals from winger Karolina Urban and a pair of assists from Brenley Jorgensen. Kendyl Valenta saved 35 of 38 shots from the Gaels.

Queen's (13-4-2) returns to action on January 23rd against the Brock Badgers at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Game starts at 2:30pm.
