KINGSTON, Ont. (January 15, 2010) – Queen's returned to the court after a holiday break on Friday with a 3-0 victory over the Royal Military College Paladins in OUA men's volleyball competition. The Gaels needed only three sets winning with set scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-11.
Queen's (9-2) maintained its tie for first place of the OUA with McMaster Marauders. The Marauders (9-2) also in action Friday swept the Laurier Golden Hawks.
Four Gaels had seven points in the win including Daren Edwards of Waterdown, Ont.,
Matthew Taylor of Toronto,
Brett Walter of Lively, Ont., and Anthony Pitfiled of Ottawa. Watler's had seven kills while Taylor registered six in the win. Pitfield recorded a 83% kill efficiency on five kills in six attempts. Setter
Jackson Dakin of Courtenay, B.C. held the game high in assists with 23.
RMC's Phillip Gulajski of Ottawa was the game's leader in points with 11. He registered 10 kills on 27 attempts for the Paladins. Robert Hartzell also of Ottawa had 18 assist for RMC
On Sunday (Jan. 17), the Gaels will battle the York Lions on Primetime Whiteout Day. Sunday's game marks the opening game in Queen's new Athletics & Recreation Centre (ARC) and fans are encouraged to wear white to the game or purchase a commemorative shirt at the game.
