Gaels fall in shootout to third-place Lions

| By:
TORONTO (January 16, 2010) – The Queen's Gaels women's hockey team entered the game sitting second in the OUA standings, however, they could not walk away with a victory against the third-place York Lions, losing 2-1 in a shootout.

York jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first period on a goal from Autumn Mills. That was the only blemish on the night for Gaels netminder Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.), who stopped 34 of the 35 shots she saw in 65 minutes of game action. However the Dodd-Moher could not pull a victory for the Gaels as the Lions took advantage in the shootout.

The Gaels equalled the score 37 seconds into the second period on a goal by Elizabeth Kench (Gananoque, Ont.), her eighth of the year. The lone assist on the goal went to winger Brittany McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.).

Despite the loss, the Gaels (13-3-2) retain a three point lead over York for second place in the OUA standings.

The next game for the Gaels is January 17th at 4:00 pm in Toronto against the Varsity Blues. This marks the third meeting on the year for Queen's and Toronto, with the Gaels winning 6-5 in both of the previous meetings.
