Gaels battle to 0-0 draw with Nipissing

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (September 20, 2009) – Despite numerous scoring chances for both teams in the second half, the Queen's Gaels and Nipissing Lakers battled to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

The first 45 minutes saw little in the way of scoring opportunities for either team as each team contested for possession in the midfield. The majority of chances for both teams came off of dead ball situations, either corners or free kicks.

The second half was more wide open with the Gaels taking control of play early on. Jordan Brooks of Angus, Ont. had Queen's best opportunity to break the deadlock when he cut back on his defender at the top of the box but his shot was denied by Nipissing keeper Cory Schwartz.

Near the midway point of the half, Shayn Karn of the Lakers had two glorious opportunities to put his team on top but failed to finish either chance.

Late in the half, the Gaels pushed hard for the victory but could not find a way to generate a quality scoring opportunity.

Eric Schubert of Brantford, Ont. made 1 save on the day for Queen's while Schwartz of Nipissing recorded 4.

Queen's will next take to the pitch this Saturday when they take on their rivals the RMC Paladins at RMC. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 pm.
