KINGSTON, Ont. (September 19, 2009) – Striker
Kelli Chamberlain scored two goals to lead the Queen's Women's Soccer team to a 3-0 victory over the Laurentian Lady Vees on Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.
The Gaels established a clear offensive presence early in the first half scoring their first goal only 9 minutes into the game. Attacking off a failed corner, veteran striker
Renee MacLellan crossed the top of the 18-yard box, drawing Laurentian's keeper out of position for an easy goal.
Laurentian struggled to get any offensive pressure on the Queen's defence in the first half with a majority of the play occurring in Laurentian's end.
The second half marked a much different pace of the game, with ball possession and offensive pressure being evenly matched. Chamberlain found a break in the defence midway through the half for a breakaway goal which she was able to chip over the Laurentian keeper.
Chamberlain ensured a Queen's win with her second goal in the last minutes of the game with a quick assist from
Cathleen Brennan.
Though she saw little action in the first half,
Elena Corry capped her shut out with an outstanding save during a last minute scramble in the 10-yard box.
The Queen's women soccer team will be on the pitch again tomorrow at noon against the Nipissing Lakers at Richardson Stadium.
