WATERLOO, Ont. (September 19, 2009) –
Ryan Kruyne of Dunrobin, Ont., scored 14 points while
Chris Barrett of Vancouver had two tries as the Queen's Gaels easily defeated the Waterloo Warriors 53-3 in OUA men's rugby action on Saturday.
Kruyne registered a try, three conversions and a penalty goal as the Gaels moved their record to a perfect 3-0 in the 2009 season. Additional scorers for Queen's were brothers Tim and
Patrick Richardson of Vancouver,
Andrew Kirk of Paris, Ont.,
Matt Kelly of Toronto and
Shane Baddeley of Peterborough, Ont. In all seven different Gaels recorded a try during the game.
Liam Underwood of Toronto had two conversions.
The Gaels were in control for the entire game scoring 27 points in the opening half with Barrett, Baddeley and the Richardson brothers scoring. In the second half, Queen's nearly duplicated their first half totals posting 26 points.
Through three games Kruyne holds the OUA scoring lead with 48 points - 16 points ahead of Laurier's James Stewart. Barrett and
Tim Richardson are tied for third place with 20 points.
As a team, the Gaels have outscored their opponents 202-6 in the first three games and are averaging 67 points per game. Queen's sits atop the OUA standings with 15 points while Western is in second place with 13 points.
Next Saturday (Sept. 26) the Gaels (3-0) battle rival McMaster (2-0) in a rematch of the 2008 OUA championship which saw the Marauders top the Gaels 18-10. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm at Kingston Field.
