Gaels top Varsity Blues 33-6 in preseason football

TORONTO (August 31, 2009) – The No. 8 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels earned a 33-6 preseason victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Monday night at Varsity Stadium.
 
Jimmy Therrien (Montreal), Thomas Howes (Parham, Ont.) and Ryan Granberg (Sherwood Park, Alta) each recorded a single touchdown in the victory. Therrien and Grandberg scored on a 2-yard and 16-yard run respectively while Howes caught a 1-yard pass from quarterback Danny Brannagan (Burlington, Ont.).
 
The Gaels defence also contributed four points with Toronto surrendering two safeties.
  
Queen's officially starts the 2009 regular season with its home opener against the Guelph Gryphons next Monday (September. 7). Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm with tickets available by calling 613-533-2500
 
 NOTES: In 2008 Queen's finished the OUA regular season unbeaten at 8-0 while Toronto was 2-6... Queen's improves to a 3-1 record in pre-season contests over the past four-years.
