Zeeman scores 22 in win over Toronto

Kingston, Ont. (February 6, 2009) – Queen's narrowly knocked off the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 3-2 in men's Ontario University (OUA) volleyball action on Friday. The Gaels win eliminated the Varsity Blues from competition.

Queen's opened the match taking the first set 25-14. With Toronto needing to win to keep it's playoff hopes alive rattled off 22-25 and 21-25 victories to take a 2-1 advantage into the fourth frame. Queen's battled back to earn a 25-21 win in the fourth and captured a 15-11 deciding set.

Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., and Jeff DeMeza of Calgary, both scored 20 plus points. Zeeman notched 20 kills and two aces along with two blocks for a team high 22 points while DeMeza rattled off 18 kills and two aces for 20 points. Setter Daniel Rosenbaum of Hamilton produced 52 assists in the victory.

Toronto was led by fourth year player Steven Kung of Toronto who matched Zeeman's 22 points. Setter Deagan Mcdonald of Calgary recorded 36 assists.

Queen's (15-4) sit tied for second place in the OUA with the Western Mustangs (15-4) who also recorded a 3-2 victory over Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

Both Western and Queen's have one game remaining and will play tomorrow night. Western is on the road against Waterloo while Queen's is home against the Ryerson Rams. Both game begin at 8:00pm.
