Sudbury Ont. (February 6, 2009) – Queen's fell victim to a 48 point explosion by the Laurentian Lady Vees on Friday as the Gaels were downed 71-55 in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women's basketball on Friday night in Sudbury, Ont.
Queen's scored 15 points and 11 in the second to take a 26-23 lead into the half but failed to keep the volatile Laurentian offence at bay. Laurentian, the third leading offence in the OUA with 1,261 points returned to the court and poured in 24 points in the final two quarters to take the win. Queen's countered with 29 in the second half.
Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., posted 22 points in the Gaels loss, converting six-three pointers.
Maddie Soye of Kitchener, Ont.,was the Gaels next leading scorer with nine points.
Katie Goggins of Hammer, Ont., was the game's top scorer leading Laurentian with 23 points.
Laurentian's win places them two points ahead of Queen's in the OUA East standings. Queen's sits in sixth place with 14 points, six points ahead of York. Tomorrow the Gaels will play York with a chance to clinch the final playoff position in the division.
