Kingston, Ont., (February 24, 2009) - The Queen's men's basketball team (7-15) travels toToronto to square off against the Toronto Varsity Blues(15-7) in an east division playoff quarter-final match-up.
The Varsity Blues enter the playoffs with momentum on their side, having won nine of their last 11 regular season games while Queen's enters snapping their 10-game losing streak on the final night of the regular season against the Royal Miltary College.
Fourth-year guard
Baris Ondul of Istanbul, Turkey leads Queen's into the post-season, scoring a team-high 254 points.
Third-year forward
Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont. was the only Gael to crack the century mark in rebounds with an even 100. Leger played in just 11 games this season as he suffered a season-ending knee injury on January 16, against Toronto.
Queen's lost both regular season meetings against Toronto in 2008-09 falling 68-58 in Toronto on January 16, and 69-63 two weeks later in Kingston on January 31st.
Toronto's top offensive threat is fourth-year point guard Rob Paris of St. Catharines, Ont., who led the team with 347 points.
Fourth-year forwards Patrick Sewell of London, Ont., and Ahmed Nazmi of Cairo, Egypt, combined for 269 rebounds on the season.
The Gaels and Blues tip-off the OUA east-division quarter-finals tommorrow night in Toronto at 8:00pm.
