Gaels fall 3-0 to Windsor and need a victory over Western to advance to the post-season
Windsor, Ont. (February 21, 2009) - The Queen's women's hockey team's playoff hopes will have to wait one more day as they were shutout by the Windsor Lancers 3-0 on Saturday.
Queen's and Windsor are battling for the final playoff spot in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and with the victory the Lancers pull within one point of the Gaels who currently hold the final playoff spot with one game remaining.
Candace Rapchak of Stoney Point, Ont., and Kelly Meincke of Sault St. Marie. Ont., both had a goal and an assist for the Lancers as Rapchaks's eight goal of the season stood tall as the winning goal just three minutes into the game.
Melissa John of Unionville, Ont., stopped 31 of the 34 shots she faced as the Gaels were shutout for the sixth time this season.
Queen's recored falls to 12-13-0-1 and hold the final playoff spot with their final regular season game coming tomorrrow against the Western Mustangs
The Gaels hold their playoff hopes in their own hands, with a victory tomorrow Queen's will secure a playoff berth. Windsor can leap-frog the Gaels with a win over the last place University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UNOIT) on Sunday, along with a Queen's loss against Western can take the the sixth and final spot in the OUA.
Game time is schedule for 2:00pm in London, Ont. for the Gaels while Windsor's game will begin at 4:10 pm at the South Windsor Arena.
