Ottawa (February 14, 2009) –
Erin Skippon of Kelowna, B.C. hit a season high of 19 points but the Queen's women's basketball team suffered a 70-59 defeat to the Ottawa Gee Gees to finish the 2008-09 regular season.
Skippon was coming off her previous season high of 15 points last night in the loss to Carleton and continued her play tonight going seven for 19 and five of nine from the line.
Jill Wheat of Marwayne, Alta., had a game high, 10 rebounds for the Gaels despite being outscored in three of the four quarters.
Ottawa's offense was spread around throughout three players Katie Laurie of Ottawa, and Emilie Morasse of Quebec, each recording 11 points, while teammate Kelly Weir of Ottawa, sunk 10 points in the victory.
Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., finished the season with a 13 point night which places her second in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) scoring race behind York's Laura Maccallum of Paris, Ont. Moore finished with 392 points, six shy of Maccallum's 398.
Queen's does finish in sixth place in the OUA east-division despite dropping their last six games, and travels back to Ottawa, to face the third seeded Carleton Ravens in the OUA east- playoff. Game time is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, at 7:00pm.
The Gaels and Raven's have split the season series 1-1 with each team taking their respected home game. Queen's defeated the Raven's 53-52 on January 24, which saw an exciting ending which can be seen by
clicking here. The Raven's equalized the season series last night handing the Gaels a 63-52 loss.
