Ottawa (February 13, 2009) – The Carleton Ravens extended their league leading winning streak to 18 games, dumping the Queen's Gaels 85-43 in men's basketball on Friday in Ottawa.

The loss marked was the Gaels' 13th of the season and their ninth in a row. Queen's losing streak dates back to a 68-58 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues where perennial all-star Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont., suffered a season ending injury.

Kingston's Stuart Turnbull was the game's leading scorer securing 18 points for the Ravens while another Kingston native, Aaron Doornekamp, contributed 14.

Queen's top scorer was rookie forward Bernard Burgessen of Port Hawksbury, N.S. who tallied 11 points and five rebounds. Dan Bannister of Newmarket, Ont., was the game's top rebounder finishing with seven.

The Gaels managed to control the tempo of the game early breaking out to a 9-7 lead midway through the first quarter. However, the Ravens responded with a 6-0 run to close the opening quarter at 13-9. After that Carleton never looked back dropping 19 in the second followed by 29 in the third and 24 in the fourth. Queen's posted quarters of 13, 8, and 13 to close the game.

Queen's record sits at 6-13 with a single game remaining in the 2008-09 regular season. Tomorrow night they will visit the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Ottawa captured the last meeting between the two teams 73-58 in Kingston.
