Kingston, Ont. (February 13, 2009) - Queen's women's hockey suffered their 12th loss of the season falling 6-0 to the No.2 nationally ranked Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks inside the Kingston Memorial Centre.
Queen's held the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) leading scorer Andrea Ironside of Collingwood, Ont., off the score sheet until the third period but did not have an answer for Kingston native Kaley Powers. Powers netted a hat-trick for the Golden Hawks opening the scoring on the powerplay just one minute into the game.
Melissa John of Unionville, Ont., made 28 saves in the loss for the Gaels as Laurier capitalized on two of three powerplay attempts.
Queen's settled the game down in the second and third period but only managed to get 15 shots on netminder Liz Knox of Stouffville, Ont. giving the Golden Hawks their 17th shutout of the season.
The Gaels move to 12-11-1 on the season and sit in sixth place in the (OUA), while the Golden Hawks remain perfect at 26-0-0 with one game remaining.
The Gaels have three games left and must rebound quickly as they hosts the Waterloo Warriors tommorrow afteroon at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Game time is scheduled for 2:30pm.
