Kingston, Ont.(February 13, 2009) - Three first period goals was enough as the Queen's men's hockey team defeated the Royal Military College (RMC) 3-1 at the Constantine Arena on Friday.
The line of
Scott Kenway of Calgary,
Brandon Perry of Timmins, Ont., and
David Chubb of St. George's, Nlfd., produced all three goals for the Gaels as Queen's sweeps the season series against their cross-town rivals 3-0.
Chubb opening the scoring for Queen's and followed up with the eventual game winner three minutes later on the powerplay. Chubb then added an assist on Perry's second goal of the season to give the Gaels the 3-0 lead heading into the second period.
Brady Morrison of Thamesville, Ont., protected the Gaels lead the rest of the way turning aside 31 shots,giving up just one goal to RMC captain Paul Bradley of Calgary in the second period.
The RMC's goal snapped Morrison's shutout streak at 84 minutes, and marked the first goal that the Paladins have scored on Morrison in over 95 minutes dating back three games ago on January 23rd where they Gaels defeated the Paladins 4-3 in a shootout.
Queen's finished the 2008-09 regular season winning six of their final seven games to post a 12-14-2 moving them into sixth position in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East.
The Gaels now wait to find out their playoff fate, as the Ottawa Gee Gees sit two points back with two games remaining. Ottawa squares off against the No.10 nationally ranked McGill on Saturday, and finish up the regular season on Sunday against Ryerson.
Note: Queen's also defeated the Paladins in an pre-season game on September 19, 2008 4-3 in a shootout held in Gananoque, Ont.
