McHaffie's powerplay marker lifts Gaels to win over Warriors

WATERLOO, Ont.(December 5, 2009) – Brittany McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) scored the game winning goal at 7:52 into the third period on the powerplay to hand the No. 7 Queen's Gaels a 2-1 win over the Waterloo Warriors 

The Gaels opened the scoring with a goal from Kelsey Thomson (Martintown, Ont.) just over five minutes into the game, but couldn't hold that lead into the second period. Waterloo's Jessica Tracey scored the equalizer at 17:10 in the first. 

The winning goal came on a roughing penalty by Warriors' captain Randi Lynn Wilson, as the Gaels' Katie Duncan (Kitchener, Ont.) set up McHaffie for the goal.

Queen's fired 30 shots on Waterloo goaltender Erica Bridgewater.   Queen's Karissa Savage (Calgary, Alta.) saved all but one of the 28 shots she faced. 

Queen's heads into the holiday break with a 11-3-1 and sit in second place behind the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.  The Gaels return to the ice on January 9 in Guelph where the contend against the Gryphons.  The Gaels next home game  is set for January 23rd against Brock at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
