WATERLOO, Ont. (November 8, 2009) – Defenceman
Michelle Hunt of Mississauga, Ont., scored the shootout winner as the Queen's Gaels survived a back and forth contest to pick up the 5-4 victory.
The win improves the Gaels record to 6-1-1 on the season while the Warriors fall to 1-3-2.
Waterloo came out flying to start the game as they took a 3-1 lead after the first period thanks to a pair of goals from Caitlin Bridges. Queen's would bounce back to tie the game in the second as
Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont., and
Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont., each scored their third of the season.
Midway through the third period,
Morgan McHaffie of Guelph, Ont., scored her fourth of the season to put the Gaels on top. However, the Warriors refused to go away and managed to tie the game with four and a half minutes remaining on a powerplay goal by Randi Lynn Wilson.
After the overtime session didn't find a winner, Hunt ended the contest after each team had scored two goals.
Karissa Savage of Calgary, Alta., picked up the win for Queen's making 23 saves.
The Gaels return home Friday night when they welcome the York Lions to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm at the Memorial Centre.
