KINGSTON, ONT. (November 6, 2009) – Two points and 12 seconds separated the Gaels from their first win of the season, but instead they walk away the losers after a last second three-pointer by Lakehead.

With the Gaels up 74-72 with 12 seconds on the clock, Lakehead took the ball up court and managed to get off a three pointer with just seconds remaining. Andrew Hackner made no mistake for his fourth three of the game, giving the Thunderwolves a 75-74 victory.

The dramatic ending overshadowed a dominant performance by Mitch Leger (Kingston, Ont.), who finished with 29 points, 18 rebounds, and four assists. The game continued Leger's torrid start to the season, after averaging well over 30 points and a double-double for the preseason.

The Gaels saw themselves down by 10 after the first half, but a 23-12 third quarter got them back in the lead at 58-57. Dan Bannister (Newmarket, Ont.) had 15 points and two steals for the Gaels.

Lakehead had four players in double figures, led by Hackner with 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Ryan Thomson with 14 points off the bench.

The Gaels (1-0) continue their opening weekend with a game against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday November 7th in Bartlett Gym at 8:00pm.
