Dodd-Moher shines in shutout win over UOIT

| By:
OSHAWA, Ont. (November 29, 2009) - Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsville, Ont., made 25 saves for her second career shutout as the No. 7 Queen's Gaels defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont., also starred for the Gaels registering two goals and an assist.

The Gaels set the tone for the game early on when Becky Conroy of Pembroke, Ont., scored her 12th of the season just 1:33 into the contest. Kristin Smith of Toronto and Thomson would also score in the opening frame to give Queen's a comfortable three goal lead after one period.

Both Dodd-Moher and UOIT netminder Jessica Larabie stood tall in the second period as each turned aside 10 shots to keep both teams off the board in the frame.

In the third, Thomson would put the game out of reach with her ninth of the season before rookie Carmen Eskesen of Calgary scored her first career OUA goal to round out the scoring.

Eskesen, Conroy and Smith would all tally two points in the game to complement the offensive output of Thomson.

The win improves the Gaels to 10-2-1 on the season as they continue to hold down second spot in the conference. The loss drops the Ridgebacks to 4-8-1.

Queen's will conclude the first half of the season next weekend with a pair of home games against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday and the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday.
