KINGSTON, Ont. (November 28, 2009) – A 19-9 third quarter run blew open a tie game as the Queen's Gaels (5-4) upset the Brock Badgers (6-2) by a score of 71-58 Saturday night at Bartlett Gym.

Both teams came out shooting the ball extremely well in the opening half. The Badgers were led by the three point shooting of Emily McKay while Queen's countered with some excellent play by Katie Guthrie of Orillia, Ont. The result led to the teams being knotted at 37 through two quarters.

In the second half, the Gaels began to take control of the game, with Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., leading the charge for Queen's. Moore made the Badgers pay for some weak defensive zone coverage as she converted on a number of open looks to put the Gaels in front by 10 after three quarters.

The final quarter saw the Badgers make the run, and eventually cut the lead to four. However, the Gaels would prove to be the better team on this night as they walked away with their fifth win of the season.

Guthrie was a difference maker for the Gaels scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Moore led all scorers with 21 points while Christine Wallace of North Gower, Ont., also had a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds).

The Gaels now break for the holidays and will next see OUA action on January 5, 2010 when they travel across town to take on the RMC Paladins.
